Ottery St Mary Twinning Association

Apologies for not updating for some time but here we go

We have a new committeee and have just been to Pont L'Eveque for our bi annual visit where we were treated very well as the press release below states

PLE update May 3rd to 6th 2019

What a memorable experience!  A great time was had by all.  Beautiful scenery, French cuisine, warm and welcoming hosts; who could ask for more?

Calvados cocktails.Delicious varied canapés.Flutes of sparkling wine.  Our friends from Pont l’Evêquehad gone to town to welcome us. We all met in the well-manicured gardens of the Town Hall to be greeted by the Mayor and the French committee of the Twinning association.  The warmth of the evening sun crowned the occasion.Weariness, after the long journey from Ottery, soon dissipated. We all left with our designated correspondent to enjoy a convivial meal and to get to know our French hosts better.

Scrumptious croissants and brioche were served for breakfast. We then got together againfor the ‘Calvados Experience’.  One could not fail to be impressed by their high-tech presentation. Fascinating videos, special effects films, tastings of various Calvados and question time in groups filled the morning.  The visitors soon set the cash tills ringing in the lavish retail outlet. Saturday lunch was a picnic at a local village hall comprising a bring and share meal which went down a treat.   The  afternoon was spent with our hosts. That evening most of us were treated to a get together at a restaurant in Lisieux.

The magnificent Chateau of Vendeuvre, near Lisieux, was the venue for all on Sunday.  The usual speeches were exchanged and after we enjoyed lunch against a backdrop of opulence and natural beauty.  We were then privileged to be guided around some of the chateau by Mr Le Compte himself.  The chateau was packed with exquisite 18th and 19th century antiques and curiosities. Fountains, cascades and watery surprisesturned the gardens into a veritable ‘Petit Versailles’. The visit finished with a visit to the unique museum of antique miniatures of furniture and interiors.

An activity- packed weekend made the time fly by. All too soon, it was time for embraces and ‘au revoirs’. We left the region with many fond memories of our hosts who had opened up their homes and their hearts to welcome us to their native region.
